Portland Gardens

In August of 2024 I traveled to Portland Oregon to visit several gardens hosted by the Hardy Plant Society of Oregon. Then in July of 2025 I visited Bountiful Farms.

ROZENBOOM RESIDENCE

Gene Rozenboom is especially interested in dwarf conifers and Japanese Maples.

The dwarf conifers are beautiful and very slow growing so they need little maintenance. They have many different colors, forms and textures.

Slower growing dwarf conifers and Japanese Maples make excellent container plants.

The Japanese Maples make wonderful garden plants because of their variety and their fall color. The house was built on a very steep lot so to get an area of lawn, a lot of soil had to be moved and many rock walls built.

Gene’s favorite color is orange as you can see from these photos.

Juniperus ‘Wiltoni’ is the lowest Juniper available. A narrow strip of Horsetail Rush (Equisetum hymale) follows the concrete path.

A cross section of a teak tree trunk decorates the exterior wall of the house.

LAUREL HEDGE NURSERY

Estacada, Oregon is the location of the 2 acre Laurel Hedge Nursery and demonstration garden.

The House is in a beautiful setting of lawns and white Hydrangeas.

There are several formal beds and fountains.

This is the view of the more informal part of the garden.

ANNE MARSH GARDEN

Anne’s garden features a beautiful pond and waterfalls on a steep slope.

The sound of falling water permeates the garden.

Anne has a talent for creating beautiful pot arrangements.

BOUNTIFUL FARMS NURSERY

Bountiful Farms Nursery is located in Woodburn, Oregon. They specialize in evergreen hedges, topiary and Hydrangeas.

There are approximately 1000 acres of plants available for the wholesale buyer.
