This plant has an interesting story; you can read it in the book “The Golden Spruce, The True Story of Myth, Madness and Greed” by John Vaillant (2007).

The golden spruce stood in the middle of a tree farm in Queen Charlotte Islands in British Columbia, Canada. The tree was a bright gold mutation in contrast to the adjacent forest trees which were dark green. The native Indians, the Haida, believed the tree was a god and was part of their mythology. An unbalanced lumberjack cut it down with his chainsaw in 1997 never more to live. A nurseryman heard about the tree and it’s falling and immediately chartered a plane to fly him up to the Queen Charlotte Islands north of Vancouver. He took cuttings of the tree before it rotted away and brought them back to his nursery where he planted them. You can now buy a Golden Spruce from Conifer Kingdom in Silverton Oregon.
